How does design recruit athletes?
In 2020, the NCAA allowed student-athletes to receive financial gain through their name, image, and likeness (NIL). During that time, many athletes rushed to take advantage of the opportunity but did so without proper guidance and representation. Acknowledging this, Triumph NIL was formed by former Virginia Tech football star, Kevin Jones, to mentor student-athletes at Virginia Tech through their business and marketing endeavors.

Final Designs:
In collaboration with Joba Studio, the creative team and I first created the branding and website design for the People of Color: Hue+Man art and design competition, hosted by USM Modular Furniture. The wordmark is a combination of hue and human, and refers to the diverse background of participants entering work into the competition. This was done through the blending of colors to create an abstract gradient.
The second part of the project was to exhibit the competition at Art Basil’s Design Miami, which showcased the winning pieces from the Hue+Man competition. USM Modular furniture was arranged in the center of the exhibit in a way that drew guests towards the center. We also expanded on the gradient theme by applying dichroic film onto selected panels. Wall graphics were also applied to the background and used to introduce the project and tie the participants together based on their global locations and the Swiss Alps, native to Art Basil.
Impact:
Design Miami is an international event that brings together gallerists, designers, curators, and critics to celebrate and exhibit furniture, objects, and objects d’art. The Hue+Man Design exhibition was one of over 220 galleries showcased at the international design conference, Design Miami, from 1-5 December 2021. Following the cancellation of its 2020 edition, Design Miami included galleries from across America, Europe, Asia, and Africa.
